Shrink Sleeves & Labels
Shrink sleeves are an increasingly popular way to deliver attractive, high-quality graphics on contoured packages, most commonly for the beverage market. Shrink sleeves offer a very efficient way to deliver multiple SKU's from a single container type, simplifying inventories and reducing costs. The desire for functional and appealing package shapes is reinforcing this trend, making the market for shrink sleeves and labels one of the fastest growing world wide.
Films traditionally used for shrink and label applications include PVC, PETG, OPS and OPP. Each material has advantages and disadvantages. Now, films made with blends of TOPAS® COC offer a solution that combines the best features of all the above materials:
- High shrinkage
- High stiffness
- Excellent optics
- Low shrink force
- Customizable shrink temperatures
- No "natural shrinkage" at storage conditions
- Low density for efficient PET bottle recycling (density of label< 1 g/cc)
- Halogen-free (no chlorine) for safe incineration
TOPAS-based shrink films are typically made by combining TOPAS with PE and/or PP in multilayer structures that optimize the performance and cost-effectiveness of the sleeve or label. After orientation, TOPAS COC provides up to 80 % recoverable shrinkage with a very low shrink stress, allowing for a uniform shrink around a container. An additional benefit is easy recycling for PET containers and shrink sleeves containing TOPAS COC. A density below 1 g/cc is achieved when TOPAS COC is co-extruded with PE or PP, allowing easy separation of the sleeve from a PET container during the recycling process.
