Stand-up Pouches

With its high stiffness, TOPAS reduces the tendency of stand-up pouches to sag. This makes pouches easier to fill and easier to handle. Their improved rigidity also means that a thinner film may be used in their manufacture, thus achieving material reduction.

In multilayer SUP films, the sealant layer consists in most cases of LLDPE. If a LLDPE-COC blend with 15 to 25% TOPAS COC were  used instead, the heat-sealing properties would be considerably improved.

Coextrusions of TOPAS with PP in retort films improve stiffness, heat resistance and moisture barrier. Blends of high temperature grades of TOPAS COC with PE maintain of modulus at temperatures up to 125° C ( 257° F) leading to improved mechanical integrity of the pouch during hot filling and retorting. Furthermore, the addition of TOPAS COC to polyolefins can decrease the tear resistance in the transverse direction allowing for an easy opening of pouches.

Property Profile:

  • High stiffness
  • Compatibility with PE
  • Improved heat resistance
  • Better hot tack and seal strengh
  • Enhanced barrier
