An exceptional family of plastic materials, TOPAS COC resins combine excellent transparency, high moisture barrier, high strength and stiffness, and very low shrinkage and warpage. TOPAS COCs, in contrast to partially crystalline polyolefins PE and PP, are amorphous, transparent copolymers based on cyclic and linear olefins. They are a new class of polymer with property profiles that can be varied over a wide range.

TOPAS COCs are made from ethylene and norbornene and can be tailored to exhibit a wide range of heat deflection temperatures (HDT) with a practical upper limit of 170 °C (340 °F). The high purity and absence of ionic content in these resins is reflected in high insulation resistance and very low dielectric loss. TOPAS COCs have excellent chemical resistance to aqueous acids and bases and to most polar solvents.

TOPAS COC provides excellent moisture control. It has roughly double the moisture barrier of high-density polyethylene (HDPE) and five times the moisture barrier of low-density polyethylene (LDPE).

TOPAS COC is environmentally-friendly and permits easy disposal. On combustion it forms no toxic gases but only water and carbon dioxide.
